Netflix Announces Stan Lee’s Universe

In the wake of Stan Lee’s recent passing, fans and celebrities have come forward with a variety of ways to pay tribute to the late, great comic book creator. The Hollywood Reporter, for instance, published several full-page posters from companies and associates remembering the man. Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, meanwhile, chose to send Lee to the other side with a musical performance. Netflix, on the other hand, has introduced a new feature to their site that honors the writer while also offering a convenient destination for consumers of Marvel movies and shows.

As this new GIF from the Netflix Twitter account indicates, when you type Lee’s famous catchphrase “Excelsior!” into the platform’s search bar, your results will consist of an assortment of Marvel Entertainment releases under the category “Stan Lee’s Universe,” putting everything from the films to the LEGO shows to the Heroes United series all in one place.

Though some have already made the loaded observation that Iron Fist and Luke Cage are conspicuously absent, it’s still a nice little feature that fans will probably appreciate as they pay tribute to Lee while also enjoying a little binge-watching.

Of course, Stan Lee’s comic book characters haven’t just found their way to screens under the Marvel Studios banner, with Lee also sharing some credit for everything from the X-Men series to Sony’s Spider-Man movies (incidentally, it’s strange to see Spider-Man 3 as the only entry in Sam Raimi’s trilogy to make it into “Stan Lee’s Universe”). And as the round of tributes continue to make their way online, it’s clear that the late legend’s legacy goes well beyond what a single Netflix category can contain.
