Sony Dates Mystery Marvel Movies, One Is Likely Venom 2

Bad reviews aside, it feels like Venom has been getting nothing but good news since it first hit theaters in early October, with its continuing box office success ensuring that Eddie Brock’s first standalone outing won’t be its last. And while official details remain thin for the production of Venom 2, Sony may have just revealed when this symbiote sequel will be coming our way.

Two dates have reportedly been set by the studio for untitled Marvel adaptations. The first is on July 10th, 2020, and looks to be a fellow entry in this budding cinematic universe. The second is for October 2nd of the same year, and is said to be a sequel. So unless Sony already has plans for a Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse follow-up, there’s really only one option for what could be sitting in the second slot.

As for that first date, we’ve been hearing a lot of talk this year about further additions to Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters, but the Morbius movie, starring Jared Leto as the The Living Vampire, is looking like the most probable candidate for July 10th. Producers Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad even mentioned a couple of months ago that the Daniel Espinosa-helmed film is “next up” for them, and that more news will materialize “soon.”

As for Venom 2, this was a project that the producing pair were clearly interested in making well before the first film arrived in cinemas, with Venom even teasing the arrival of the next villain with its post-credits scene of Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kasady. And if all we’re hearing is true, then come 2020, Sony will be bringing the carnage, albeit carnage of the PG-13 variety.
