Child’s Play Remake Tie-In Website Reveals New Details On The Buddi Doll

The big difference with the upcoming Child's Play reboot compared with the original series is that the killer doll won't be possessed by the soul of a murderer any more but will be a cutting-edge A.I. doll that goes all Westworld and turns on its human owners. While the individual doll is still called Chucky, he'll belong to the "Buddi" toyline, as opposed to the "Good Guy" dolls from the old movies.

For fans wanting more details about the Buddi doll, Orion Pictures has now launched an official tie-in site, BestBuddi.com, which acts as the in-universe website for the toyline. According to the site, the hi-tech Buddi Dolls utilize “highly intricate cloud-backed voice recognition engine capable of identifying speech,” “20 sensors and cameras which provide detailed realtime information about its environment” and “state of the art sensor designs which provide high resolution image recognition and grip sensitivity.” All things that’ll make a perfect pint-sized killing machine once it turns evil.

The site also has a bunch of phone wallpapers available for download, two of which are the previously-released posters while a further three are done in the style of cutesy advertisement artwork for the Buddi Doll, only with a gruesome twist.

Child’s Play stars Legion‘s Aubrey Plaza as Karen Barclay, who gives her son Andy (Gabriel Bateman of Lights Out fame) a Buddi Doll for his birthday unaware of its more sinister nature. Bloody Disgusting has also reported that Andy’s doll happens to be one that’s been hacked for unknown reasons to become a killer.

In a stroke of genius, Child’s Play opens in cinemas next year on June 21st. In case you didn’t know, that’s the same day as Toy Story 4, giving audiences the choice of watching two very different takes on the same “toys come to life” premise.
