While The Nun didn’t exactly earn great reviews, the horror spinoff at least brought The Conjuring universe to new commercial heights, which indicates that there are probably quite a few fans out there eagerly awaiting news on next year’s Annabelle 3.
From what we’ve been told so far, the third installment in the demonic doll’s spinoff series will return to American soil in the wake of The Nun’s trip to Europe. But that’s not all, as we now have an official plot synopsis to feast on, which was released by Warner Bros. earlier today and can be found below. It’s a bit vague, to be sure, but its tease of an unholy night of terror is enough to send shivers down our spine.
See for yourself:
Determined to keep Annabelle from wreaking more havoc, demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren bring the possessed doll to the locked artifacts room in their home, placing her “safely” behind sacred glass and enlisting a priest’s holy blessing. But an unholy night of horror awaits as Annabelle awakens the evil spirits in the room, who all set their sights on a new target—the Warrens’ ten-year-old daughter, Judy, and her friends.
Behind the camera for this one is writer-turned-director Gary Dauberman, who earned his horror stripes on both Annabelle movies (and It!) before deciding that he was ready to try his hand at directing. Such a change of tack means that the upcoming threequel will be remembered as Dauberman’s directorial debut, and it’s certainly shaping up to be a promising one.
With production on Annabelle 3 having already begun, we imagine a few key updates will be headed our way in the next couple of weeks. Until then, though, we’ll remind you of what Dauberman told us just the other month, when he likened the set-up to the planned DC series Swamp Thing, saying:
“It’s what happens when Annabelle comes into the artifact room. Much like Swamp Thing, what happens when Annabelle comes into the artifact room and how she affects her environment.”
Sounds good to us, and as soon as more info emerges, we’ll be sure to let you know.
