Being a major franchise star in the age of Reddit can be a dangerous game sometimes, with cast members attached to properties as big as Marvel and Star Wars being at constant risk of violating their nondisclosure agreements as the press and the public hound them with questions. Nonetheless, Star Wars: Episode IX lead Adam Driver continues to hold up under interrogation.
In a newly shared clip from Variety, the Kylo Ren actor is seen attending this year’s Gotham Awards, where the BlacKkKlansman star was approached by a journalist asking about his character’s arc in J.J. Abrams’ next release. Driver, however, could not be roped into such a discussion, bluntly stating, “I’m not touching that one!” as he walked away.

You can hardly blame the guy for his hasty exit when the fans have a way of jumping onto the most banal of statements in their search for clues. Earlier this month, for instance, Driver refused to answer the innocent question of what he finds most interesting about Kylo, explaining that it’s “hard to say because we’re working toward something in particular with that character. I don’t want to give anything away.” Nonetheless, the internet quickly took this non-answer as an excuse to speculate further on what grand finale the Lucasfilm team could be working towards.
At the same time, a few of Driver’s co-stars have previously let slip the odd detail in interviews. Oscar Isaac, for instance, painted a picture of Guerrilla warfare against the First Order when he spoke to USA Today earlier this year. Richard E. Grant, meanwhile, added fuel to the theories that he’d be playing a villain when he mentioned a few weeks ago that his audition script was an interrogation scene.
On the whole, however, the cast have done a pretty good job of keeping the details under wraps, meaning that we should be in for a few surprises when Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20th, 2019.
