In its own way, John Carpenter’s chilling score from the 1978 Halloween defines the influential horror flick just as much as the mask of Michael Myers. So when the legendary composer and director says that he wants to lend his talents once more to the series, it’s a development that’s worth getting a little excited about.
Carpenter made his long-awaited return to the property with the recent Blumhouse movie, and with a sequel to David Gordon Green’s Halloween now looking inevitable, it sounds like the Assault on Precinct 13 helmsman would be game to provide the music once more, telling Consequence of Sound:
“We’ll be ready. We’ve all talked about it. We’ll be ready.”
The ominous soundtrack for Green’s Halloween was the result of a collaboration between Carpenter, his son Cody Carpenter, and his godson Daniel Davies, who’ve also worked together on John’s two studio albums Lost Themes and Lost Themes II. In the same interview, Carpenter mentioned that the team has plans for a Lost Themes III, but after their work on Halloween, the group will be taking a little break first.
Nonetheless, it could only be a matter of time until the trio commences work on the next entry in the ongoing slasher saga, with Halloween 2018 co-writer Danny McBride saying back in October that sequel talks have already started. At the moment, it’s still unclear who’ll be returning from the last movie, though actress Jamie Lee Curtis has said that she’d at least come back if Green was still directing.
There’ll be plenty of time to work out the details of Michael Myers’ next screen outing, but if you feel like revisiting the killer’s latest trip to Haddonfield from the comfort of your own home, Blumhouse’s Halloween will be available on digital from December 28th, before arriving on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD on January 15th.
