In an installment of Variety’s Actors on Actors interview series, Nicole Kidman and Adams were in conversation and naturally, the topic of DC came up. As Kidman’s about to make her debut in the franchise as Queen Atlanna in Aquaman, Adams took the opportunity to welcome her into the DCEU. However, in the next breath, she revealed that we might’ve see the last of her as Superman’s girlfriend on screen. As for why, the actress replied: “I think they’re revamping that. I don’t know the details.”

If by “that,” Adams is referring to the Superman corner of the DC universe, then this fits with what we know. After Cavill and WB supposedly fell out over extending his contract, word has it that the studio’s looking to use a touted Supergirl movie to tinker with the Man of Steel’s mythos. Much like Adams herself, though, we’re not quite sure what exactly this “revamping” refers to.

It’s possible that it could be more of stylistic change, though, continuing the tone of Justice League instead of, say, Batman V Superman. However, it’s possible that WB intends to completely reboot the character, too, as Black Panther‘s Michael B. Jordan is rumored to be the top choice to play the new Kal-El, and if he snags the part, he’d be the first African-American actor to portray the iconic hero.

There’s a similar level of mystery surrounding the Caped Crusader, too. Ben Affleck’s all but confirmed to have exited the franchise, leaving Matt Reeves’ The Batman free to reboot the Dark Knight in any way that the director and studio see fit. In this case, the signs are pointing to the new Bruce Wayne being much younger than Affleck.

Despite all this uncertainty, one thing we know for sure is that Aquaman splashes into theaters on December 21st. The DC universe will then continue with Shazam! and Wonder Woman 1984 coming in 2019.
