Crisis On Infinite Earths Revealed As 2019’s Arrowverse Crossover

When it was announced that the Monitor would be appearing in “Elseworlds,” Arrowverse fans theorized that the crossover would be laying the groundwork for an adaptation of perhaps the most famous DC comics event of all time. That would be Crisis on Infinite Earths, in which the whole of the Multiverse came under threat from the Anti-Monitor, the powerful cosmic entity who’s the counterpart to Mar-Novu (the Monitor).

Well, those of you who thought this should give yourselves a pat on the back, as it’s now been confirmed. Not that we had any doubt, mind you. After all, last night’s second installment of “Elseworlds” strongly hinted that a crisis is coming to the Arrowverse.

When he finally managed to arrive on Earth-1, John Wesley Shipp’s Flash from Earth-90 revealed that the Monitor had been going around the multiverse, testing the heroes of each world by using The Book of Destiny to warp reality. It’s said that the random, dangerous alterations to reality approximate the terrible threat that’s due when a “crisis” hits the 52 Earths of the multiverse.

And now, with the current crossover having wrapped up, The CW has released the trailer below to confirm that yes, 2019’s big event will indeed be an adaptation of Crisis on Infinite Earths. It also reveals the premiere date as Fall of next year, which means it may air a bit earlier than “Elseworlds” did.

Of course, “Elseworlds” tipped its hat to Crisis in the form of a couple of easter eggs over the past few nights. For one, the red skies that marked Earth-90 Flash’s attempts to materialize on Earth-1 are a callback to the comic arc. Likewise, the moment when Shipp’s speedster appears via a portal to issue a warning to Team Arrow/Flash recalled a famous moment from the page (as well as being a bit of a homage to Batman V Superman).

So, once again, we kind of all saw this coming, but still, it’s great to receive firm confirmation and given how spectacular “Elseworlds” turned out to be, we simply cannot wait to see what’s in store for us with Crisis on Infinite Earths.
