Avengers: Infinity War’s Josh Brolin Takes Credit For Aquaman’s Box Office Success

Josh Brolin has really been doing the rounds this year when it comes to superhero cinema. Not only did the Oscar-nominated actor star as Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War before teaming up with Wade Wilson in Deadpool 2, but he also ended 2018 on a third box office hit as a member of the Aquaman cast. Well, not exactly.

Brolin has been so prominent in the superhero genre this year that there was a period where Googling “Aquaman cast” brought up the actor as the first name listed. And while this inclusion was an obvious mistake, that hasn’t stopped Brolin from taking credit for the film’s impressive opening weekend, tagging actual Aquaman star Jason Momoa in an Instagram message that sees the Cable actor basking in his fake success:

“I just want to thank all my fans for ANOTHER #1 opening this year. It’s crazy! Making @aquamanmovie was one of the most satisfying, harrowing experiences of my career and I want to thank my ohana on the film for the making the experience so epic. Aqua man has been a childhood dream for me, so to have this happen is otherworldly. Thank you all again and again. #iamaquamanforever #bornthiscut #academyhaircutmovienext”

Even Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld picked up on this misleading Google result, posting a modified version of the Aquaman poster along with a message congratulating his friend:

“So excited for my friend @joshbrolin who is currently celebrating the rare trifecta of depicting Thanos, Cable and now Aquaman in the same calendar year! Way to go Josh, congrats on another #1! Now onto Jonah Hex 2! Show us the way!! Such great chemistry with the fish too! #aquaman #cable #thanos #marvel #dc #icon”

Indeed, you can hardly blame Brolin for trying to take credit for Aquaman‘s success given how well the movie has done at the box office this month. After a record-breaking performance overseas, Arthur Curry’s solo debut opened strong domestically, before topping the first-week gross of its DCEU predecessor Justice League. If the film’s run in cinemas continues as expected, then James Wan’s flick may even pass the $1 billion mark in global gross, making it the first entry in its cinematic universe to do so.

That being said, Brolin himself saw even greater box office success earlier this year as the lead villain of Infinity War, and you can expect Avengers: Endgame to scale similar commercial heights when it hits theaters on April 26th, 2019.
