Netflix Warns Users Against Taking The Bird Box Challenge

With the Bird Box challenge sweeping social media, Netflix has warned its users against it, urging them not to hurt themselves.

Have you heard of the Bird Box challenge yet? Given how quickly it’s spreading over social media, you probably have.

Inspired by Netflix’s hit film of the same name, it tasks participants with performing everyday tasks while blindfolded. Clearly, the idea comes from how the characters in the movie can’t open their eyes while outside due to an unseen presence that drives anyone who looks at it to commit suicide. As such, they all need to wear blindfolds when they aren’t inside.

It’s an interesting concept, but not one that should be replicated in the real world. That hasn’t stopped folks from trying it out though and now that Netflix has caught wind of it, they’ve issued a warning on their Twitter account in an attempt to prevent people from getting hurt.

Can’t believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE. We don’t know how this started, and we appreciate the love, but Boy and Girl have just one wish for 2019 and it is that you not end up in the hospital due to memes.

As of yet, we haven’t heard of any injuries or harm befalling anyone who’s taken the challenge, but given what it has people doing, it’s surely only a matter of time before something goes wrong. And though Netflix’s warning isn’t likely to stop anyone who’s already intent on participating in the latest internet sensation, it’s still nice to see them trying to keep folks safe.

Besides, as Bird Box only continues to grow in popularity, you can bet that we’ll keep seeing more and more viewers trying to get in on the challenge. Hopefully they’ll be responsible about it though and not attempt anything too risky. There may not be any demonic presences out there driving people to commit suicide, but walking around blindfolded while trying to perform everyday tasks can still prove to be a pretty dangerous thing.
