Iron Man Confirmed To Return Back To Earth In Avengers: Endgame

It's been confirmed that Iron Man will definitely be returning to Earth at some point during Avengers: Endgame. We're just not sure who will save him.

The first trailer for Avengers: Endgame didn’t give much away, merely showing us some intriguing clips from this year’s must-see movie event from what’s likely just the first half hour or so. As such, it left us with more questions than we had before, and number one on the list was does Tony Stark really die in space?

The opening minute of the Endgame trailer see the hero recording a farewell message to his beloved Pepper, as he’s stranded in space with no fuel or food in the Guardians’ ship the Benatar. It’s likely that Nebula’s with him as well, going by later scenes featuring Thanos’ surviving daughter in the same location. But what happens next?

Well, let’s face it, however it happens, we all pretty much expect Iron Man to make it back to Earth to team up with the rest of the planet’s mightiest heroes to find a way to save the universe. And we now have confirmation of this from a rather reliable source – Robert Downey Jr. himself.

On the same day as the Endgame trailer was released, Audi shared a video introducing their new car, the e-tron GT concept. Downey Jr. was on hand to appear in the video, in which he reminisces about Audi’s long-term partnership with Marvel, going back to his driving the Audi R8 in 2008’s Iron Man. When he jokes that he desperately wants to drive their new concept car, Audi Head of Design Marc Lichte reminds the star that he has. The actor cheekily replies: “Well, I mean I… as Tony Stark in Avengers 4, out in theaters in spring 2019, I did.”

If we make the simple assumption that Stark doesn’t find the new Audi in space and get himself home that way, we can take it as red that Iron Man somehow gets the Benatar going again and returns to Earth. In time to try out a new car, too. Sure, half of the universe is dead, but Tony still needs to upgrade his wheels, right?

In any case, we’ll find out how Stark is saved when Avengers: Endgame – as Downey Jr. so handily reminded us – arrives in the spring. Or, more specifically, April 26th.
