Is the future still bright for (groovy) Bruce Campbell?

That was the question posed to the Evil Dead legend this past weekend, when a curious fan (h/t DualShockers) asked Campbell straight up if there are currently any plans for a new video game rooted in the universe of Deadites, to which he replied: “Yes.”

To date, there have bee a total of seven Evil Dead games released across console and mobile platforms, beginning with The Evil Dead in ’84 for Commodore 64 and the ZX Spectrum all the way up to Endless Nightmare, which first graced iOS and Android back in 2016. Alas, there’s been nary a mention of a full-fledged Evil Dead experience ever since, though Campbell, for one, is certainly game to reprise the role of Ash Williams, should the opportunity arise.

Case in point:

Last we reported, Bruce Campbell told Evil Dead fans that there are several projects currently in the works, the details of which have yet to be revealed. Either way, one would have to assume that a new console title will be published somewhere other than THQ, given the company has filed for bankruptcy since A Fistful of Boomstick and Regeneration launched for PlayStation 2 and Xbox many moons ago.

Be that as it may, there is still a tangible appetite for new material, particularly in the wake of Ash Vs. Evil Dead‘s cancellation at Starz. The ultra-violent, tongue-in-cheek series was a bloody send-up to Campbell’s Deadite adventures, though sadly the show failed to make it past its third season.

Plans had been set for Ash Vs. Evil Dead season 4 (and they were suitably groovy), but never coalesced. Perhaps the franchise’s next steps will lead to a full-fledged game for current-gen systems, then? Time will tell.
