Spider-Man: Far From Home Suit

Small Detail In Spider-Man: Far From Home Trailer May Tease Avengers: Endgame

For someone who is currently a pile of dust on an alien planet, Spider-Man is looking pretty good in the first trailer(s) for Spider-Man: Far From Home. While we don't yet know the mechanism by which the Avengers save the day and manage to undo Thanos' snap. Now one enterprising fan has noticed a detail in the trailer that may point towards some kind of chronological upheaval in the MCU.

For someone who’s currently a pile of dust on an alien planet, Peter Parker is looking pretty good in the first trailer(s) for Spider-Man: Far From Home. While we don’t yet know the mechanism by which the Avengers save the day and manage to undo Thanos’ snap, one enterprising fan has noticed a detail in the trailer that may point towards some kind of strange time travel solution in Avengers: Endgame.

Notice anything weird about Peter Parker’s passport? Well, aside from his startled expression, one curious omission is that all of the dates don’t feature years. It’s a strange and clearly deliberate decision taken by the movie (and it’s also pretty odd to have this image front and centre in the trailer). So what gives?

Well, there’s one school of thought that says that the quickest way to date a film is to have it set in a specific year. After all, the date of issue of the passport would specifically place Far From Home as happening on a particular date. And so far, the MCU has played fast and loose about precisely when its movies are set in most instances, choosing a vague “contemporary” vibe for their modern day films (obviously efforts set in the past like Captain Marvel are a little more precise).

The other option though is that fixing Thanos’ snap has screwed up time in such a bizarre way that the residents of the MCU literally don’t know what year it is anymore. Or, perhaps, this shot has been edited to conceal the dates so as to reveal that Far From Home actually takes place before Infinity War and that they’re not bringing Spider-Man back from the dead after all.

But…they wouldn’t do that, right? Would Marvel Studios really be so cruel? I guess we’ll find out when Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters on July 5th, 2019.
