Marvel Fans Think Spider-Man: Far From Home’s Mysterio Is Connected To Doctor Strange

In what might well be an attempt to avoid Avengers: Endgame spoilers, the promotion for the upcoming Spider-Man: Far From Home has so far offered few references to the wider MCU and the various other superheroes who dwell within it. In what might well be an attempt to avoid Avengers: Endgame spoilers, the promotion for the upcoming Spider-Man: Far From Home has so far offered few references to the wider MCU and the various other superheroes who dwell within it. It can be understood from first glance how Quentin Beck’s caped costume and ostensibly supernatural powers could cause the Sorcerer Supreme to spring to mind. Of course, seeing how Mysterio’s appearance is largely modeled on the comics, these similarities might well be mere coincidence, but since the Marvel Studios likes to keep its films tightly interconnected, perhaps it’s not such an absurd notion that Gyllenhaal’s character is somehow associated with or takes inspiration from Stephen Strange and his mystical peers.

In any case, if the film is looking to stay faithful to the comics, then it’s unlikely that Mysterio will actually have some magical abilities to rival Doctor Strange. To elaborate, the character has traditionally been a special effects wizard who deals in mere illusion, raising the question of whether Quentin is pulling a fast one on Nick Fury and Peter Parker.

Though Gyllenhaal and Tom Holland have explained previously that Mysterio and Spidey will be teaming up to fight Elementals across Europe, there’s already been some speculation that Quentin is somehow responsible for the emergence of these powerful beings. That remains to be seen, but either way, the pair’s comic book history makes it pretty likely that their partnership isn’t going to last. We’ll find out if there’s more to Mysterio than meets the eye when Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters on July 5th, 2019.
