Ernie Hudson Confirms Original Cast Will Return For Ghostbusters 3

Having been a fan of Ghostbusters since early childhood, you can imagine that seeing a proper third entry into the franchise has been on my wishlist since 1989. Unfortunately, nothing came to fruition in that regard, though a reboot somehow came together in short order following Harold Ramis' passing a few years back. As fate would have it, the new take on the concept wasn't received all that well, therefore any plans for a followup were scrapped.

Then, something wondrous happened when a teaser for a flick set within the originally established universe dropped online earlier this week. Because of there being such an elaborate presentation, I’m guessing the Jason Reitman-directed threequel had been secretly gestating for some time.

Naturally, moviegoers have assumed for the three surviving members of the gang – Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson – to reprise their iconic roles. And thankfully, Hudson has told Daily Mail that yes, the squad will reunite next year, though Ramis will be sorely missed.

‘We miss Harold, because Harold was really the glue that I think held everybody together,’ he said.

‘He was always my go-to point and anything that was a little bit weird, or whatever, Harold was the guy who would sort of say, “Ernie, just…” and explain the world to me.’

Much like his colleagues, Hudson respected what the Ghostbusters reboot accomplished, but I think he’s right when saying it lacked the certain something which made the franchise so special. Here’s the insight he gave:

‘Well I love the ladies who were a part of that movie. I’m a fan of all theirs. I think they did a wonderful job. I don’t quite think it was… there’s a vibe or feeling that Ghostbusters has; it was a little bit different.

‘It was uniquely theirs, which I guess it should have been, but I wanted to see something sort of extended from… This was a reboot.

‘I would like to have seen a movie that takes place 30 years into the future, which is where we are. So I loved it, I think they did a wonderful job, I enjoyed the movie, but I’d like to see us bring the real Ghostbusters, whatever that means.’

Having digested this exciting news, it’s encouraged that you keep watching this space because there’s sure to be much, much more info making its way online between now and when Ghostbusters 3 (or whatever it ends up being called) arrives in theaters during the summer of 2020.
