Up-and-coming screenwriter Scott Z. Burns is being considered to write the script for Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner remake. The film’s studio backers, Alcon and Warner Bros., support Burns, who has garnered attention for such films as The Bourne Ultimatum, The Informant! and Contagion, to pen the script.

Twitch Film is reporting that not much information about the story of the new Blade Runner is known but Alcon has stated that the movie is a follow up of sorts to the original 1982 science fiction film, which starred Harrison Ford and Rutger Hauer, and was directed by Scott. The studio added that:

The filmmakers have not yet revealed whether the theatrical project will be a prequel or sequel to the renowned original.

The original Blade Runner starred Ford as retired Los Angeles cop Rick Deckard, who’s living in the year 2019 where the city he lives in has become a center of corporate advertising, pollution and flying cars, as well as human-like androids.

Given his success writing action films, Burns seems like an excellent choice to pen the Blade Runner script. If he is picked, hopefully the screenwriter will do the original film justice by once again scripting an action-packed, intense story.

What do you think? Should Burns pen the remake?
