The Empire Strikes Back may be one of the darkest chapters in the Star Wars saga, but that doesn’t mean Mark Hamill can’t see the funny side of things, taking to Twitter to share a behind-the-scenes photo of himself in the role of “Darth Doofus.”
The image is taken from the famous scene on Dagobah where Luke Skywalker is confronted with a vision of Darth Vader, prompting the Jedi to slice off the aggressor’s head only to find he was really fighting himself. In the newly shared pic, however, the Vader version of Luke doesn’t seem too sad about being decapitated, posing a goofy smile that Hamill’s tweet explains as follows:
“If you can’t have fun at work, you’re in the wrong business.
#DarthDoofus”
Evidently, Hamill has no problem poking fun at himself, though much of his social media activity is dedicated to trolling his fans instead, with the actor regularly taking pleasure in sharing fake titles and fake trailers for Star Wars: Episode IX, while staying tight-lipped on the actual content of the upcoming trilogy-closer.
Of course, given Lucasfilm’s notoriously excessive spoiler security measures, Hamill would be in no position to spill secrets on Luke’s next outing even if he wanted to. Just last month, the actor compared working on the new Star Wars movie to being in the CIA, explaining how he’s only allowed to see the script under heavily monitored conditions and isn’t able to keep it with him overnight. By contrast, Hamill recalled how he was at liberty to share the script for the first Star Wars film with all his friends because “back then nobody cared.”
Clearly a lot’s changed since the days of the Original Trilogy, but we’ll find out what secrets Hamill has to hide when Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20th, 2019.
