Matt Reeves Says The Batman Will Focus On The Hero’s Detective Mode

Even after Warner Bros. have released a host of films to feature the Caped Crusader, it could be argued that his impressive intellect has yet to be explored to the fullest. After all, there's a very good reason why he's often referred to as "the World's Greatest Detective."

So far, it could be argued that Michael Keaton’s take on the character made popular by Tim Burton’s flicks came closest to showing off this aspect. Christopher Nolan’s version played by Christian Bale, meanwhile, had his moments, but it was kind of off-putting when Lucius Fox would have to explain things to him.

Fortunately, it looks like incoming director Matt Reeves will go whole hog in this regard, as recent reports have stated that he’ll give moviegoers a new perspective on The Batman with his effort. In fact, he said just as much during a recent chat with The Hollywood Reporter:

“It’s very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale. It’s told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it’s going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It’s more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in the films. The comics have a history of that. He’s supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, and that’s not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been. I’d love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime, it’s going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation.”

I don’t know about you, but I’m certainly down for seeing that. Actually, reading the words “detective mode” forced my mind to recall the “detective vision” found in the Arkham series of video games. I’m not sure if Reeves looked to those for inspiration, but Zack Snyder apparently did when putting together fight scenes for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. Needless to say, anything’s possible.

Right now, The Batman lacks a concrete release date, but Reeves says, “the movie would probably be for 2021, late spring or summer.” As always, watch this space for more.
