Mortal Kombat Shaggy

Ed Boon May Be Teasing That Shaggy From Scooby-Doo’s Coming To Mortal Kombat 11

The Mortal Kombat series has become known for its awesome guest characters. Over the last few years, we've seen Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, Leatherface, a Predator and the Alien square off against the Kombat cast. And each of them has put up more than enough of a match to the Mortal Kombat 11 crew of supernaturally powered ninjas, otherworldly mutants and low level deities. But now, if the internet gets its way, a new challenger will be approaching: Shaggy from Scooby-Doo.

Yes, you read that right. There’s a wildly popular petition going on to get Shaggy in the game, with his potential appearance being Ultra Instinct Shaggy. And let’s face it, Shaggy’s tangled with all manner of genuine supernatural beings (including Dracula) and while he admittedly spent a lot of time running away and cowering in fear, who among us could go better.

Now, in what appears to be a teasing confirmation that the wheels might be moving behind the scenes, series co-creator Ed Boon tweeted the below mockup of how the character could look in the game:

So, could this actually happen? Well, we’ve still yet to receive any firm confirmation, but Shaggy would hardly be the weirdest guest character to ever grace a fighting title. After all, The Walking Dead‘s Negan will soon be added to the cast of Tekken 7, Darth Vader and Yoda made an appearance in Soul Calibur IV and Hellboy made it into Injustice. Plus, as has been pointed out on Twitter, Mortal Kombat is published by Warner Bros., who also own the rights to Scooby-Doo, so theoretically, it shouldn’t be too hard to sort things out.

With that in mind, I say c’mon guys, let’s make this insane crossover a reality. I really want to see what kind of craziness they’d cook up for Shaggy’s fatalities. Perhaps the Mystery Machine grinding his foes to a pulp? Or Scooby chowing down on someone’s head like a giant Scooby snack? Or maybe even Scrappy-Doo being hurled at them like some kind of obnoxious missile?

Time will tell, but Mortal Kombat 11 releases on April 23rd for PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC and so far, it looks great.
