Avengers: Endgame TV Spot May Reveal How Iron Man Is Saved

Last night’s Super Bowl TV spot for Avengers: Endgame gave us a lot of images to process by the standards of 30-second videos, but since Marvel Studios is presumably well aware that the pause button exists, there are surely some serious limitations on how much we can learn from a frame by frame assessment of the footage.

Still, ComicBook.com is trying their hand at working out what secrets the TV spot has to yield, arguing that one shot of Tony Stark and Nebula may hint at how the pair eventually escape from their drift through space. In the film’s first teaser, we saw Iron Man stuck in a ship that was running out of food and oxygen, and recording what he believed to be his last ever message. Though the fans have offered plenty of theories on who might swoop in to save our hero – be it Captain Marvel, Rocket, or Pepper Potts in her new Rescue persona – it’s now being argued that the recently released shot of Stark and Nebula working on something together could indicate that the pair will save themselves through some impressive feat of engineering.

To the theory’s credit, this was also how Robert Downey Jr.’s character escaped from his cave prison in 2008’s Iron Man, leading to the birth of the MCU’s first superhero, and with Endgame looking like it may well be Stark’s last outing, this could be a fitting way to bring his journey full circle.

At the same time, after the first Avengers: Endgame trailer was so insistent that Tony was all out of options and on the verge of death, to suggest that the hero actually had the resources and knowhow to save himself after all may feel like a bit of a cop-out. Regardless, we’ll get a lot more context to the new footage when the film hits theaters on April 26th, 2019.
