Just like Bill Paxton (Private Hudson in Aliens) and Arnold Schwarzenegger (T-800), Linda Hamilton found herself as a bonafide ’80s movie star after just one role.
In her case, it was T2: Judgment Day, which is without question one of the most accomplished sequels in cinematic history. With that in mind, it’s understandable that fans are eagerly anticipating The Terminator, Skydance and Tim Miller’s long-in-the-works reboot which will kick Genisys and the series’ convoluted timeline to the curb in favor of a fresh start.
At the moment, we don’t know a whole lot about what’s being cooked up for us, but in a recent interview with Yahoo, producer James Cameron revealed that the film won’t be called The Terminator. According to him, they haven’t chosen a final title just yet, but for now, they’re going with Terminator: Dark Fate.
“We’re calling it, Terminator: Dark Fate. At least that’s our working title right now,” said Cameron.
Given that Cameron mentions that this is the working title, it’s entirely possible things will change between now and release. However, Dark Fate is certainly a pretty cool name and it wouldn’t be too surprising if they ended up sticking with it. After all, it’s a heck of a lot better than Genisys.
And though it’s certainly an encouraging sign that Cameron is back on producing duties here, don’t expect the next installment in the franchise to just be a nostalgic re-tread of the first two movies, as he’s previously stated his intentions for the property to catch up with our changing views of computer technology:
“We’re developing a new Terminator film. And The Terminator films are all about artificial intelligence. But I would say we’re looking at it differently than when I wrote the first story in 1982. That was just your classic ‘technology bad, smart computers bad’ kind of thing. Nowadays though — it’s got to be a much more nuanced perspective. So its ‘Smart computers bad… BUT…’ That’s the new motif.”
From everything we know so far about the project, it truly sounds as if the team’s making a real effort to recapture the magic of the first two outings, but we’ll find out if The Terminator – sorry, Terminator: Dark Fate – can fare any better than some of the recent sequels when it arrives on November 1st, 2019.
