Gotham’s David Mazouz Wants To Play Batman In A Future Movie

With Gotham having run for five seasons, one positive thing to come out of its longevity is that the actor originally cast as the young Bruce Wayne will be able to play Batman in some capacity during the series finale. In case you hadn't heard, camera trickery will be used to show David Mazouz's face under the cowl, while a guy boasting a larger frame will stand in as the Dark Knight for most shots.

Still, one has to wonder what it’d be like for Mazouz to portray a full-on Caped Crusader by his lonesome. Fortunately, Cinema Blend asked him about the possibility while at the TCA winter press tour, and here’s what he had to say:

“Oh, absolutely. I think I would need to be a little bit older, a little bit taller.”

At least he’s realistic about it. Right now, Mazouz would make a great fit for the Damian Wayne iteration of Robin, or as Terry McGinnis in a Batman Beyond flick – but we all know the latter isn’t going to happen.

Much like any other enduring icon, the periodical recasting of Batman is an absolute certainty. So, who knows, maybe Mazouz could land such a gig ten years down the line? But if I had to guess, I’d say his previous portrayal of the character may disqualify him.

On the plus side, though, it could help him to land roles in other future DC projects, be they live action or animated. Those familiar with the brand know how producers like bringing back actors in different capacities – just ask Dean Cain, Helen Slater, Laura Vandervoort, Sam Witwer, John Wesley Shipp or a variety of others.

Gotham airs on Thursday nights on Fox.
