In Avengers: Infinity War, the nineteenth installment and seventh entry in Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), one of the most memorable scenes for fans was during the post-credits. The moment in question follows Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury and Cobie Smulder’s Maria Hill as they’re driving through New York City during the chaos caused by Thanos’ snap.

A theory from Reddit user Jlefrench1990 states that Fury actually knew that Thanos’ snap would ultimately occur here, even before he called Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel for help. During his and Hill’s drive, a suburban crashes ahead of them and moments later, Hill turns to dust as a result of the decimation. As she’s fading away, she refers to her colleague as “Nick” instead of “Director” or any other professional term, hinting that she’s terrified of the ongoing events.

On the contrary, as the city around him further delves into chaos and horrified civilians run for their lives, Fury remains totally calm and collected. The theory states the reason why’s because Fury was previously notified that Thanos would eventually use the Infinity Gauntlet to snap his fingers and erase half of all life on the planet. With this knowledge, when he realizes what’s happening in front of him, his instinct’s to call Captain Marvel, given that he’s aware of her immense power.

Of course, immediately after we see the distress signal sent to the superheroine, the screen cuts to black, leaving millions of viewers enthralled and questioning where things go from here. Unfortunately, we still don’t have the answer to that, but Marvel fans will more than likely find out when the two characters return in the upcoming Avengers: Endgame on April 26th.
