Godzilla: King Of The Monsters TV Spot Reveals New Footage From The Upcoming Battle

The promotion for Godzilla: King of the Monsters will probably never top the splendor of last July’s trailer, but subsequent previews haven’t exactly dulled the public’s enthusiasm for the upcoming clash between giants.

Just take this new TV spot, viewable above, for example, which packs a whole lot of impressive imagery into the space of just 30 seconds. Across an array of different locations, we see various beasts emerging in preparation for a heated smackdown. “ONLY ONE CAN BE KING,” the text declares, and while the movie’s own title seems like a pretty big spoiler for who’s going to be walking away with the crown, it’s clear that Godzilla still has quite the fight ahead of him.

Though the latest footage just might hint at a surprise newcomer entering the fray, what we know so far is that King of the Monsters will serve as the MonsterVerse debut of the winged Rodan, the insect Mothra, and perhaps the biggest threat that the cinematic universe has seen to date, the three-headed King Ghidorah. And whereas the somewhat divisive 2014 Godzilla proved surprisingly restrained in depicting the atomic-breathed lizard’s various fights, director Michael Dougherty has offered his assurance that there’ll be “no holding back” in this next flick.

But while the monsters have been the undisputed stars of the movie’s promotion, Dougherty’s film also boasts an impressive human cast, which includes the likes of Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Kyle Chandler, Ken Watanabe and Zhang Ziyi, many of whom are expected to return in the subsequent Godzilla vs. Kong. Incidentally, the idea of the Big G facing off against a big hairy ape honestly sounds like a significant step down in scale after the lizard’s next set of opponents, but we can worry about how Legendary Pictures plans to keep the stakes high for the 2020 crossover clash after Godzilla: King of the Monsters hits theaters on May 31st, 2019.
