Queen To Perform At 2019 Oscars Ceremony After All

Buoyed by the lucrative success of Bohemian Rhapsody, Queen and Adam Lambert are officially headed to Sunday's Oscars ceremony.

Adam Lambert and the gang have officially booked their place in the Dolby Theater ahead of this Sunday’s Oscars ceremony.

That’s right; Queen will perform at the 2019 Academy Awards on the heels of Bohemian Rhapsody and its global success story. Lambert will once again take to the stage, having fronted the band since 2011, and though bassist John Deacon won’t be in attendance, Queen fans can still look forward to Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor lighting up the Dolby Theater with a collection of the band’s greatest hits.

“We Are the Champions” and “Bohemian Rhapsody” are sure to feature, having gained a boon in popularity (and sales!) in the wake of Fox and Dexter Fletcher’s Freddie Mercury biopic. Speaking of which, the film itself is up for the coveted Best Picture, while Mr. Robot star Rami Malek has been nominated for the Best Actor gong following his spellbinding performance as Freddie Mercury – fake gnashers and all.

Said duo swept the board at last month’s Golden Globes ceremony, but it remains to be seen whether they can capture lightning in a bottle once more. Either way, at least Queen made the guest list.

“Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?” That was the message from The Academy’s official Twitter feed, which welcomed Queen onto the Oscar ballot with open arms.

There is, however, an air of controversy surrounding Bohemian Rhapdosy due to the involvement of Bryan Singer, who’s since faced fresh accusations of sexual misconduct with minors. The director has somehow – almost inexplicably – still secured new gigs, though the likes of BAFTA and GLAAD have suspended his awards nomination until further notice.

Meanwhile, the 91st Academy Awards begins Sunday, February 24th at 8 pm ET (5 pm PT). Don’t miss it.
