Zombieland: Double Tap makes another noteworthy addition to what was already looking like an impressive cast, with Variety reporting that Luke Wilson has joined the line-up for the upcoming sequel to 2009’s Zombieland.
The star of Idiocracy and The Royal Tenenbaums will feature in an unnamed role opposite returning players Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin, as well as fellow series newcomers Rosario Dawson, Thomas Middleditch and Zoey Deutch.
With Double Tap currently in production, the casting announcements have been coming thick and fast, and while we haven’t been hearing quite so much on the plot front, recent reports indicate that the sequel will see the cast of the first movie living in the White House, before embarking on an adventure that will introduce some new types of zombies that have managed to evolve over the years. Along the way, the gang will apparently cross paths with a “female zombie-hunting badass named Nevada,” played by Dawson, while Eisenberg’s character Columbus is getting a new love interest named Madison, played by Deutch.
Fresh off his box office success with last year’s Venom, Ruben Fleischer is once more at the helm, with a script penned by Zombieland and Deadpool writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese.
It’s been a long time since these three collaborated for the first movie, but we’ll find out if the series was worth resurrecting when Zombieland: Double Tap hits theaters on October 11th, 2019. And if one Luke Wilson movie isn’t enough, you can also see the star performing opposite the likes of Ansel Elgort and Nicole Kidman in Amazon Studios drama The Goldfinch, which just so happens to be coming out on the same day.
