Holmes & Watson Wins Worst Movie Of The Year At 2019 Razzies

As expected, Holmes & Watson swept at the 2019 Razzies, winning the award for worst movie of the year along with a few others.

One of the biggest bombs of last year was without a doubt Holmes & Watson. Though fans of Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly were excited to see the comic duo’s third collaboration – following successful efforts like Talladega Nights and Step Brothers – the Sherlock Holmes spoof was completely trashed by vicious reviews from critics and didn’t fare too much better at the box office, either.

Interestingly, Sony actually knew they had a flop on their hands with Holmes & Watson, too. You may or may not have heard, but the studio tried to cut their losses and hand the film off to Netflix ahead of its release. Unfortunately for them, though, the company wouldn’t bite and so, they ended up dumping it into theaters, hoping for the best.

As we said above, though, it totally bombed and even now, after its run has finished up, it’s still finding itself in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. That’s because the 39th annual Golden Raspberry Awards have announced their winners and Holmes & Watson – to no surprise – walked away with several trophies.

For starters, the movie took home the award for Worst Picture, while John C. Reilly snagged himself a Worst Supporting Actor gong. Elsewhere, Holmes & Watson also nabbed Worst Remake, Ripoff or Sequel and Worst Director (Etan Cohen). Ouch!

Clearly, Sony won’t be giving Holmes & Watson a sequel – which they might’ve planned on doing beforehand – or any sort of follow-up. And with BBC’s Sherlock likely not returning for at least another two years and Sherlock Holmes 3 taking its sweet time getting to theaters, it looks like fans of the iconic detective will continue to find themselves starved for content for a little while longer.
