The Punisher Star Thinks The Show Will Return With A New Cast

Marvel fans were left devastated earlier this week when Netflix announced it was bringing the axe down on both The Punisher and Jessica Jones, meaning that all five Marvel TV shows on the streaming service have now been cancelled. The only question that remains, is, will any of them be revived, perhaps in different forms, on other platforms?

Well, one star of The Punisher certainly seems to think that could happen. Jason R. Moore – who played Curtis Hoyle on the series – spoke to TMZ recently and said that he believes The Punisher could return one day, but thinks that it’d be awfully hard to get all the actors back together and so, Marvel may have to recast the roles.

“Man, let me tell you something. It’s going to be very difficult for them to collect all of us, like the original cast. It’s probably going to be very difficult for them to collect all of us again. But I mean, we’re going to be moving on to other stuff, we’ll be busy. But they might bring it on with a different cast. People enjoy it, The Punisher has a serious following, so I mean, it might behoove them to create more Punisher episodes. But yeah, that’s what I think.”

We have to agree with Moore here. Though we have no doubt that these cancelled shows will eventually resurface, it’ll probably have to be in the form of some kind of reboot when we see them next. Despite the actors all sounding like they’d be eager to make more, we already know that Marvel can’t use the characters for two years now due to their contract with Netflix and who knows where the casts will be at that point?

Still, we remain hopeful that the House of Ideas has future plans for these properties. After all, Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb mentioned earlier this month at the TCA winter press tour that he expects the canceled shows will reemerge somewhere else. Meanwhile, Hulu’s Senior Vice President of Original Programming has also said that he’s “open” to the possibility of reviving the series, and we’ve already heard that Marvel may be in talks with them to do exactly that.

In any case, it’s going to be a long time before we see most of the Defenders back on our screens, but at least we can look forward to Jessica Jones having its last hurrah when the third season drops later this year.
