The Disney Plus Shows Will Be A Key Part Of The MCU Post-Avengers: Endgame

Once Avengers: Endgame and the Sony-produced Spider-Man: Far From Home have made their way to theaters, fans are in for a slightly longer wait than usual before the next MCU adventure makes its way to the big screen, but in the meantime, some of the saga’s most familiar figures will be making a return via Disney Plus.

Unlike Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the Netflix shows, and various other Marvel Television projects, the series headed for Disney’s upcoming streaming service will be made directly under the guidance of Marvel Studios, allowing them to tie in more intricately with the events of the films. In fact, all of the projects believed to be on the way will focus on familiar characters from the MCU, and in an interview with Collider, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige seemed to relish the opportunity to tell their stories in a new format.

When it comes to the length of each series, the producer explained that it simply depends on how many hours each story requires:

“All the above, yeah. I mean, I think it’s gonna be story dependent, and that’s what’s so exciting about the streaming platform, is there aren’t any rules necessarily. For us to have another outlet to tell stories, and to play with medium, and to do, not just deeper dives on characters that we’ve seen many times in the MCU, but haven’t been able to devote six, seven, eight, nine, 10 hours to, is amazing, and is something that we’ve been working on for a while now. And still aren’t gonna announce outside of the Loki series with Tom Hiddleston.”

While the Loki show is the only one that’s been officially announced, it’s also believed that Scarlet Witch and Vision will have their own Disney Plus series, as well as Falcon and Bucky. And since these projects will involve some of the biggest stars of the MCU, it figures that they’ll also tie in heavily with what’s happening in the films.

“It’s been extremely additive to the entire creative arc, not just of the Disney+ programs we’re working on, but on the entire post-Endgame MCU. Because we’ve been able to weave them. We’ve been able to, for the first time, conceive of them together, and they will be intertwined with each other.”

From the sound of things, Marvel Studios intends to elevate the Disney Plus shows to a similar level of importance within the MCU as the actual films. We’ll see if audiences are willing to follow them down this path when the platform launches later in the year, but in the meantime, Avengers: Endgame will be laying the foundations for the future of the franchise when it arrives in theaters on April 26th, 2019.
