Last month, Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld announced plans for Major X, a six-issue limited series that hits stores this April. Since it just so happens that Josh Brolin played the character in last year’s Deadpool 2, perhaps it was only a matter of time before someone on the internet imagined the actor adopting the same striking look, and when artist Houseofmat did just that, Liefeld was impressed enough with the result to repost it on his Instagram.

Putting Houseofmat’s image and his own side-by-side, Liefeld praised his fellow artist for his quickness:

“Mere hours after sharing a glimpse of ‘Old(est) Man Cable from my upcoming Major X on social media, this augmented version of Josh appeared. Man, you guys are quick! Not a bad look on you Mr. Brolin!”

At the moment, it’s unclear when we might see Brolin return to the Deadpool franchise, though Disney CEO Bob Iger’s comments from earlier this month at the quarterly earnings call suggest that the series will be allowed to continue in its R-rated vein once the merger with Fox comes into effect. This should give the fans hope that writers Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Ryan Reynolds will be able to push forwards with their plans for Deadpool 3, though things have been suspiciously quiet on the X-Force front lately.

Regardless, you’ll be able to see the latest version of Cable in action when Major X comes out this April. As for Brolin, the star is set to reprise his other big Marvel role when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th.
