New Arrow Synopsis Teases The Highly Anticipated Star City 2040

Those of you who’ve been keeping up with the current season of Arrow have no doubt been witness to the latest storytelling element employed by the writers, that being the flash forward. In stark contrast to seasons 1-5 detailing Oliver Queen’s time abroad via flashbacks, we’re now being thrust twenty years into the future in order to see a Star City with a dramatically changed landscape in various respects.

As such, viewers have been trying to pin down what year the future sequences take place in, not to mention scratching their heads wondering how certain characters got to that point. Furthermore, some theorized this was all prelude to Legends of Tomorrow‘s “Star City 2046,” but that notion has been shot down because said adventure is not being regarded as Arrow‘s canonical future.

Well, expect to have many of your questions answered – and then some – once “Star City 2040” graces the small screen later this month. Here, take a look at the official synopsis for your first appetizer:

FLASH FORWARD TO THE FUTURE — Mia Smoak (guest star Katherine McNamara) and William (guest star Ben Lewis) venture into the Glades on a dangerous mission. There they run into Dinah (Juliana Harkavy), Roy (Colton Haynes) and Zoe (guest star Andrea Sixtos) who deliver some devastating news. The flash forwards share highlights from Mia’s childhood with Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards). James Bamford directed the episode written by Beth Schwartz & Oscar Balderrama (#716). Original airdate 3/18/2019.

From the look of it, the entire episode will take place in the future. If not, you have to admit it’d come across as pretty awkward if the main narrative takes place in the present, and then we flash forward to these segments containing their own flashbacks. But I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Perhaps it’s just me, but I’m especially intrigued to find out more about Felicity’s daughter, Mia, and who her father may be. With actress Katherine McNamara being 23 years of age, her character would’ve had to have been conceived around our present year in order for this to make any sense whatsoever. She could be playing younger, sure, but that means her date of birth can’t be long after 2019.

Arrow airs on Monday nights on The CW, with “Star City 2040” being set to debut on March 18th.
