After much demand from the fans and a few false starts, Zombieland: Double Tap is now in production and from what we understand, it’s coming together rather nicely. Granted, we haven’t really seen much from it in the way of official stills or footage just yet, but we we do have a few details on the story of Ruben Fleischer’s next film.
According to recent reports, the pic will find the old gang living in the White House before they set out on a journey that’ll introduce a few new zombie types to the franchise which have managed to evolve over the years. Along the way, they’ll also encounter a “female zombie-hunting badass named Nevada,” played by Rosario Dawson, while Jesse Eisenberg’s Columbus will find himself with a new love interest named Madison, played by Zoey Deutch.
Speaking of Eisenberg, the actor recently sat down with MovieWeb for an interview and provided them with a brief but welcome status update on Double Tap, saying the following about it:
“It’s going really well. Just resting on our laurels and really cocky [laughs]. No, the opposite. We’re working so hard. It’s one of these movies that, people loved it for personal reasons. So it’s not just a big hit movie. People love it for personal reasons so you want to make sure it’s as funny and as personal as the other one.”
So, not the meatiest or most substantial update then, but it’s nice to hear that things are going well and the cast and crew are working hard. And following the massive box office success of last year’s Venom, we’re certainly excited to see what Fleischer’s cooking up for us. Especially because he’s re-teamed with Zombieland and Deadpool writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese.
It’s been a long time since that trio worked together on the first film in the series, but we’ll find out if Columbus and his friends were worth resurrecting when Zombieland: Double Tap hits theaters on October 11th, 2019.
