Captain Marvel Continuity Error May Reveal Nick Fury As A Skrull

Marvel fans have been fussing a lot over the differences in Nick Fury's personality in Captain Marvel compared to how he acts in the modern day MCU, but there might just be an explanation for that. One viewer has noticed a potential minor continuity error that could just tell us that the man we've known as Fury has actually been a Skrull for the past few years.

Marvel fans have been fussing a lot over the differences in Nick Fury’s personality in Captain Marvel compared to how he acts in the modern day MCU, but there might just be an explanation for that. One viewer has noticed a potential minor continuity error that could just tell us that the man we’ve known as Fury has actually been a Skrull for the past few years.

Reddit user PowerRangersLOL rewatched Avengers: Age of Ultron after seeing CM and noticed that something Fury does in the 2015 movie clashes with what he tells Carol Danvers in 1995. When introducing himself to Captain Marvel, the young Fury explains that he can’t eat diagonal slices of toast. And yet in Ultron, he’s seen snacking on a diagonal sandwich.

Here’s how the fan described their findings:

“There is a gag that Fury can’t eat toast that has been cut diagonally. I decided to watch Age of Ultron and at about the hour and 9 min mark, Fury appears to cut a sandwich diagonally. Now, to be fair, this was un toasted bread. And he did break a peace off from it before he ate it. So maybe it only applies to toast and not sandwiches. Either way, I’m convinced that modern Fury is a skrull. Secret Invasion confirmed.”

So did Fury’s bread preferences change over time, or does this mean these two Furys are not one and the same? It’s a trivial detail, sure, but Captain Marvel taught us to look out for the small things when spotting a Skrull – such as when the fake Keller called Fury “Nicholas.” And, though it hasn’t been confirmed, there must surely be a Secret Invasion movie coming, which will mean some MCU mainstays will be revealed to be Skrulls.

CM surprised us all by portraying the Skrulls as innocent refugees, but there could be a non-evil reason for why a Skrull would impersonate Fury. In fact, one commenter suggested that Fury really died in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Talos replaced him to honor his old ally.

What do you think, though? Does Captain Marvel subtly tell us that Nick Fury’s a Skrull? Have your say in the comments section below.
