In this past week, Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins have both given social media shout-outs to Captain Marvel, and as it turns out, the respect between the two flicks goes both ways, as Brie Larson has now singled out Diana Prince as her favorite superheroine.
The Oscar-winner said as such during a red carpet event for Carol Danvers’ solo debut, where she was asked by The Female Lead to name her favorite female superhero. Larson replied, “I really like Wonder Woman a lot,” before offering a shout out to some of her MCU peers:
“I think she’s super cool, but also all the ladies in Wakanda are pretty cool too. All the Black Panther ladies. We got a lot of cool superheroes.”
At the moment, Larson doesn’t have a particularly vast array of big screen female superheroes to champion, though 2020 is set to bring quite a few examples. As well as Diana making her return in Wonder Woman 1984, the DCEU will also be assembling an all-female team for Birds of Prey. On the Marvel side, meanwhile, Black Widow will finally be landing her long-awaited standalone debut, which is expected to begin filming this June.
Beyond that, it sounds like Marvel Studios is hoping to bring a few more women into the MCU, with Kevin Feige claiming last year that the majority of the franchise’s superheroes will soon be female.
In the meantime, Captain Marvel is currently in the midst of a triumphant run in theaters that saw the movie take in $455 million worldwide on its first weekend. But as impressive as that figure is, you can expect to see Larson in an even bigger box office smash when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th.
