Godzilla: King of the Monsters

This New Godzilla: King Of The Monsters TV Spot Will Rock Your World

Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures' MonsterVerse is one of the few cinematic universes that actually seems to be working out. Godzilla had its flaws, but at least reestablished the titular creature as a majestic and awesomely powerful beast, while Kong: Skull Island added a whole bunch of texture and backstory to the franchise. Now, in just over two months, we're about to see the most insanely gigantic monster showdown we've seen in years in Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

The trailers and promotional material for the film to date have been absolutely magnificent, showing us awestruck humans terrified into submission and creatures that cause destruction simply by existing. This new TV spot, seen above, contains a lot of what we’ve laid eyes on before, but also some new footage of Rodan going toe-to-toe with Ghidorah in truly epic fashion. Perhaps the best indication of the tone they’re going for comes in the Lord of the Rings-aping tagline, which reads: one King to rule them all.

We’ve seen many of the components of the picture over the past few months, but what remains to be seen is exactly how they all fit together. For example, we know that the secret scientific organization Monarch will be overseeing much of the action, and presumably trying to deploy their ‘own’ monsters against the more destructive ones. Judging by this TV spot, it seems that both Rodan and Godzilla have beef with Ghidorah, so perhaps we could see a Godzilla/Rodan/Mothra team taking him down in the film’s no doubt mind-busting finale.

For those who don’t know, the sequel hits theaters on May 31st, but these trailers are so enjoyable that I’m really hoping we get another one before release. I also hope that this doesn’t get swallowed up in the summer’s superhero deluge.

In any case, once Godzilla: King of the Monsters is out of the way, we can look forward to Adam Wingard’s Kong vs. Godzilla in 2020. Suffice it to say, it’s a good time to be a monster fan, that’s for sure.
