Tom Holland Wasn’t Allowed To Have An Avengers: Endgame Script

Speaking at the Avengers: Endgame Indian Anthem Launch, co-director revealed that Tom Holland wasn't allowed a script for the film.

Tom Holland may be known as a notorious blabbermouth, but it’s been some time now since the Spider-Man: Far From Home star has revealed anything he wasn’t supposed to. At first, it seemed like perhaps he’d finally learned to watch what he says, if only for fear of what might happen if he accidentally revealed something he shouldn’t have. But it seems there’s actually a very good reason for why the actor hasn’t slipped up lately – at least, when it comes to Avengers: Endgame. And that’s because he quite simply doesn’t know much about the film.

Speaking at a recent fan event in India, co-director Joe Russo revealed that Holland was never given a script for the upcoming sequel. He just got his lines and that was all. In fact, a lot of the time he didn’t even know who he was acting opposite of, and that’s all because he just can’t help himself from spoiling things ahead of time.

Here’s what the filmmaker had to share when asked about how they deal with Tom on set:

“Yeah, Tom Holland does not get the script. Tom Holland gets his lines and that’s it,” Russo said at the Endgame Indian Anthem Launch. “He doesn’t even know who he’s acting opposite of. We’ll just, we use like very vague terms to describe to him what is happening in the scene, because he has a very difficult time keeping his mouth shut.”

This is hardly surprising to hear given Holland’s tendency for dropping spolers, but it’s still interesting to learn and makes us wonder which other actors weren’t allowed to get their hands on a proper script. We imagine Mark Ruffalo might’ve been included in this camp, too, as he’s another one who’s notorious for dropping spoilers but has also been keeping uncharacteristically quiet as of late.

In any case, Holland and whoever else might have issues with keeping secrets only have to remain tight-lipped for another few weeks, as Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th. And after that, a newly revived Peter Parker will return to cinema screens once more when Spider-Man: Far From Home comes out on July 5th.
