Thanks to the inevitable success of the 3D re-release of The Lion King, Disney will also be sending Beauty and the Beast, Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc., and The Little Mermaid back to theaters in 3D fashion over the next two years.
The Lion King was supposed to play for two weekends but its time in theaters was extended after it opened at number one in the box office for two weeks in a row.
Beauty and the Beast will be back on January 13, 2012, Finding Nemo will be on September 14, 2012, Monsters Inc. on January 18, 2013, and The Little Mermaid will be September 13, 2013.
Keep in mind – the Monsters Inc. prequel, Monsters University, will be hitting theaters on June 21, 2013, before Monsters Inc. and after Finding Nemo.
Honestly, as much as this is a money-hungry move on Disney’s part, I could never be angry with such a decision. I hope this trend continues, sending all of my Disney favorites back to the big screen. Hercules, anyone?
I don’t even remember when Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid came out, so it will be a treat to get to see those movies in theaters, especially in 3D!
