Be prepared to be sucked back into the game this Christmas as Sony is serving up another Jumanji sequel. Following the surprisingly enormous success of 2017’s belated follow-up Welcome to the Jungle, the studio has wasted no time in reuniting the cast of that movie to make, what we’re currently calling, Jumanji 3.
That cast includes video game avatars Dr. Smoulder Bravestone (Dwayne Johnson), Sheldon Oberon (Jack Black) and Moose Finbar (Kevin Hart). And let’s not forget Karen Gillan’s Ruby Roundhouse. Since she first entered the jungle, Gillan has been promoted to Avenger status over in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which means that she’s currently juggling the press tour for Avengers: Endgame with filming on the threequel.
To remind us that she’s still shooting the movie though, the actress shared a photo of herself from the “jungle” set in Atlanta, Georgia. The shot sees the star having her make-up – including, apparently, her knee make-up – given a refresh before filming another take. “Welcome (back) to the jungle,” Gillan wrote.
Alongside the quartet mentioned above, Nick Jonas is returning as Jefferson “Seaplane” McDonough as well. This is a little odd though as his storyline was wrapped up in the last movie, as the kids managed to free him from the game after many years trapped inside (much like Robin Williams’ character in the 1995 classic).
Alongside the returning faces, the cast will also be injected with some fresh blood in the form of an eclectic range of actors including Danny Glover, Danny DeVito, Danai Ramirez and Awkwafina. Going by a snap shared by Johnson featuring him cozying up with Gillan, we can also glean that the plot will see them facing some colder environments as the pair were wearing warmer clothes than in the first film.
Other than that, it’s hard to say what Jumanji 3 will bring to the table, but seeing how the 2017 flick, also directed by Jake Kasdan, showed more imagination than we were expecting, fans should have faith that they’ll be treated to another enjoyable adventure when December 13th rolls around.
