Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

EA Promises No Microtransactions Or Loot Boxes In Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Clearly eager to avoid its past mistakes, EA has made a welcome announcement concerning Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Immediately following the official unveiling of Respawn Entertainment's single-player adventure at last week's Star Wars Celebration in Chicago, the publisher took to Twitter in order to allay fears concerning potential additional monetisation methods. The post, which you can find below, exclaims "No microtransactions. No loot boxes. And no, we won't be adding them. A single-player Star Wars story for those of you who are ready to become a Jedi."

Immediately following the official unveiling of Respawn Entertainment’s single-player adventure at last week’s Star Wars Celebration in Chicago, the publisher took to Twitter in order to allay fears concerning potential additional monetization methods. The post, which you can find below, exclaims “No microtransactions. No loot boxes. And no, we won’t be adding them. A single-player Star Wars story for those of you who are ready to become a Jedi.”

A welcome announcement, no doubt, but one that speaks volumes as to the wider gaming public’s perception of EA. Many consider 2017’s Star Wars Battlefront II to have been ruined by the publisher’s insistence on literal pay-to-win loot boxes and, in light of those ultimately being heavily toned down, that EA is now using their absence in Fallen Order as a promotional tool has, not at all surprisingly, rubbed many fans the wrong way. The original post has been bombarded with various memes and references to the publisher’s past untrustworthiness concerning microtransactions, including this comedic gold.

Joking aside, should EA follow through on its word – and it’d be foolish not to – Fallen Order will avoid the stink Battlefront II created which, if nothing else, detracted from what was an otherwise terrific multiplayer Star Wars title. One does have to wonder to what extent Fallen Order‘s protection from microtransactions was mandated by Disney, though ultimately, it matters little – the outcome is the same.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is out November 15th for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC and follows the story of Cal Kestis, a Padawan forced into hiding following the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.
