While almost seventeen months have passed since the release of Justice League, many vocal DC fans remain fascinated with the film’s fabled “Snyder Cut,” partly because new info continues to surface on the movie that might’ve been.
A recent report from The Exile Network, for example, alleged that Zack Snyder filmed scenes featuring the villainous Darkseid, with Ray Porter in the role of the fan favorite. Better yet, the director himself seems to have now confirmed the claim via Vero, writing, “He’s the man,” while sharing a photo of the actor.
Though the name may not ring a bell, Ray Porter has been in the industry for a few decades, and has landed supporting roles in Almost Famous and Ben Affleck’s Argo. More recently, Porter can be seen in episodes of Modern Family and The Kids Are Alright.
While speaking at a Q&A in Pasadena a few weeks ago, Snyder offered a few further details on Darkseid’s intended role in Justice League, including the claim that Porter’s character would’ve murdered Lois Lane. All in all, it sounds like a much darker and more ambitious outing than the eventual movie which resulted from studio interference and Joss Whedon’s reshoots. And despite the filmmaker’s recent remark that his original script was never shot, you can expect calls for the Snyder Cut to continue into the coming months.
At the same time, the DCEU continues to thrive beyond its years under Snyder. Shazam!, for instance, is currently in the midst of a successful run in theaters, while filming on Birds of Prey seemingly wrapped earlier today. As for the possibility of another Justice League, we wouldn’t hold our breath, but if the franchise can sustain its current success, then surely Warner Bros. can take another swing at the property somewhere down the line.
