In November of last year, legendary comic book creator Stan Lee passed away, and to a certain extent, the upcoming Avengers: Endgame will stand as one big, 3-hour tribute to the writer’s legacy. In fact, if you ask Jeremy Renner, the man will in some ways be right there with us next week as we make that trip to the theater.
As part of the press tour for the Avengers: Infinity War sequel, the Hawkeye actor stopped by Seoul, South Korea, where he was interviewed by CNA. When asked what he thought Lee’s reaction would be watching the MCU’s Phase 3 finale, Renner offered the following response:
“He’s going to be watching it, brother. He’s watching it. He’s in all of us. He’s going to be watching it.”
No doubt Lee will be on the mind of many filmgoers as they go to see next week’s release, not least because the late legend is expected to make an appearance in the movie. According to Endgame co-director Joe Russo, the flick features his final cameo committed to film, in which case, the era-closing blockbuster is about as fitting a place as any to end the tradition on.
That being said, while Lee didn’t shoot a cameo for the upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix, director Simon Kinberg has said that the Fox movie will contain some kind of tribute to the man. Similarly, though it doesn’t sound like Lee filmed anything for Spider-Man: Far From Home, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel also found a way of referencing the wall-crawler’s co-creator.
Regardless, we expect to see Lee at least one more time on the big screen when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th.
