Earlier this month, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker helmsman J.J. Abrams hinted that the upcoming film will introduce some new Force abilities to the saga. And while the director stopped short of offering any examples, a new report from Making Star Wars may reveal a few details.

According to the outlet, Rey and Kylo Ren will engage in what they’re informally calling “Force Flash Fights,” where the spiritually connected pair fight against the backdrop of a series of different environments. From the sound of things, this Force power will create the illusion of the duo fighting in various places from throughout the history of the series.

What’s more, the source implies that this spectacle will unfold after Rey and Kylo’s “Wild West stand off.” You may recall the scene from the recent trailer where Daisy Ridley’s character comes under attack from a TIE Fighter. Well apparently, after Rey destroys the fighter and Kylo emerges from the wreckage, that’s when the trippy Force Flash Fight begins.

It’s an unusual idea that may have to be seen to fully understand. Still, MSW certainly has a better track record than most when it comes to Star Wars intel, so maybe this report is worth bearing in mind during the next eight months of speculation.

In any case, if the marketing for the last two episodes is anything to go by, then our next batch of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker footage might not be coming our way for several more months. It could therefore be a long wait before we get some confirmation on these Force Flash Fights, but all will be revealed when the film hits theaters on December 20th.
