Deadpool Creator Calls Avengers: Endgame The Most Comic Booky Comic Book Film Ever Made

On Monday night, Avengers: Endgame had its long-awaited world premiere in Los Angeles, and the screening seems to have gone down a storm with one Rob Liefeld, who later took to Instagram to sing his praises.

The Deadpool co-creator’s post features a quick review of the Avengers: Infinity War sequel, in which Liefeld celebrates the all-round comic book-ness of this week’s release:

“Avengers: Endgame is the most comic booky comic book film ever in the history of comic book films. Highest praise I could ever give. Period. Full stop.”

In the caption, Liefeld offered some final thoughts, while further stressing that Endgame is indeed a comic book movie:

“It’s simply brilliant. Congrats to all. I hold comic books in the highest possible regard. And, it’s a real page turner!!!”

Liefeld certainly isn’t the only one with some kind words to say about Anthony and Joe Russo’s latest work. At the time of writing, the film holds a score of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 151 reviews. This gives Endgame a higher percentage than any other MCU movie save for Black Panther, which currently sits at the same score.

No doubt this strong critical reception will only add to the hype behind the new film, not that Endgame needs any further help to do some insane numbers at the box office this weekend. Already, the flick is expected to beat the all-time domestic opening record of $257 million set by Infinity War, and some analysts are even saying that the movie has a chance of hitting $300 million in its first three days.

All in all, it looks like Marvel’s Infinity Saga is going out with a bang, but once Endgame has come and gone, many fans will be keen to find out when Liefeld’s own Deadpool can join in on the MCU action. In the wake of the Disney/Fox deal, it’s expected that Ryan Reynolds will maintain his role as the Merc with a Mouth, and while Marvel has yet to announce Wade Wilson’s next project, Disney CEO Bob Iger has at least made it clear that the Deadpool movies will stay R-rated.

But before we worry too much about what’s next for the MCU, Avengers: Endgame is set to bring the current era to a close when it arrives in theaters on April 26th.
