A direct sequel to Infinity War, Endgame picks up almost immediately after the events of the last movie. Half the universe has disappeared in a poof of ash…stuff. Animals, humans, aliens, maybe even plant life, all because of Thanos and his insane brain. Our heroes are doing what they can to keep things running, despite losing half of their team. Some are on earth keeping its inhabitants safe, some are on other planets doing the same. Yet, the strongest Avenger is noticeably absent. Until his friends go looking for and retrieve him, at least.

This is where Marvel seemingly takes a dig at the Justice League and specifically, Aquaman. If you’ll recall, Hulk and Rocket go off to find Thor, who now lives with and rules the remaining Asgardians. Their town is New Asgard (of course), and is located off the coast of, well, somewhere really scenic. The other strongest Avenger and our favorite trash panda arrive in town, and the conversation sounds just like something out of 2017’s Justice League. When they ask when Thor’ll arrive, they’re told he shows up about once a month.

Sitting in the theater, I half expected to hear something about him rolling in on the King’s Tide. Seriously.

When Thor does finally appear, it’s explained that he stocks up on supplies, and the camera pans to a pile of beer barrels on the ground. It’s a quick scene, but in it we have alcohol, a king that arrives only once every so often, and a coastal town to boot. Well played, Marvel. Well played.

Tell us, did you catch this cheeky Aquaman reference in Avengers: Endgame? If not, you may want to head out to the theater again to see it, as there are lots more easter eggs and nods aside from just this one, a lot of which we pick apart right here.
