Jon Favreau Reveals The Influence Tony Stark Has In Spider-Man: Far From Home

Jon Favreau is a bona fide veteran of the MCU.

He’s been deeply involved in Marvel’s cinematic juggernaut from the get-go, given his involvement in the original Iron Man movie. And he’s since gone on to produce and star in numerous MCU films. Chief among them being Spider-Man: Homecoming and its soon-to-be-released sequel, Far From Home.

The latter occupies a special place on the series timeline, as we know Jon Watts’ follow-up has been angled as something of an epilogue to Avengers: Endgame and the overall MCU Phase 3. The result? Far From Home is riddled with plot-sensitive information, and though the Endgame spoiler ban has already lifted courtesy of the Russo Brothers, we should warn you that the following interview with Jon Favreau openly refers to a major moment in Avengers: Endgame.

You have been warned!

Via ComicBook.com, the director, actor and all-around MCU mainstay spoke at length about Tony Stark’s influential role in Spider-Man: Far From Home, which was made immediately clear in the first frame of Monday’s big trailer. As a matter of fact, it’s one of the more poignant shots the MCU has ever produced, so we’re inclined to believe Tom Holland when he says that Far From Home will tug on the ol’ heartstrings.

“I try to know as much as my character does, so I try not to know too much,” said Favreau. “Happy isn’t somebody who’s innovating technology, but he’s one who’s been and Spider-Man’s sort of a tech hero. I think what’s been established in the MCU is that we’re really leaning into that he’s a little genius too.”

Favreau continued:

“Then, Tony has the resources of all of Stark from when he created the suit for him. It’s a fun balance but honestly, as I go through it I get pages the morning of. I’m like, ‘Okay, so what’s going on here?’ I can kind of piece it together and then I look in the makeup trailer of all the headshots and the names of all the characters, and I can put together what I think the movie’s about. I could guess with you. I can’t speak for that. I don’t know anything.”

Spider-Man: Far From Home makes a beeline for theaters on July 2nd, and when it comes to Robert Downey Jr.’s involvement in the Spidey sequel – be it a pre-recorded message a la Endgame or some form of voiceover that’s integrated into Peter Parker’s new suit – all bets are off.
