We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: the Marvel Cinematic Universe will never be the same again following the release of Avengers: Endgame.
Case in point: the incredible first teaser for Spider-Man: Far From Home, the second installment in a planned solo trilogy for Tom Holland’s Web-Head. In it, we catch a glimpse of a post-Endgame MCU, which is to say that Peter Parker is seen mourning the death of Tony Stark.
He was a bona fide father figure to the young Avenger, so it should come as no surprise that Far From Home will cut deep on an emotional level – perhaps even more so than Homecoming, given the stakes have raised considerably since we last saw a solo Spider-Man movie. All of this is channeled into the official Far From Home synopsis, which gives us an all-too-brief preview of what comes next.
Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man must step up to take on new threats in a world that has changed forever.
Overall, though, it seems Tony Stark still has a major role to play in Tom Holland’s second solo Spider-Man movie. For one, his legacy is seen looming over New York City – literally, and figuratively – while ComicBook.com quote executive producer Eric Carroll as saying that Stark and Happy Hogan “help Peter along this movie.”
Obviously Tony is a big part of Peter’s life. He’s not actually in this film, but his presence is very much felt and [Peter] still obviously references the fact that this is the suit Tony gave him. Tony and Happy sort of help him out in ways along this movie. So, he’s very present, he’s just not in the movie.
On July 2nd, theaters will play host to Spider-Man: Far From Home, and while we don’t expect Jon Watts’ spectacular sequel to hit the dizzying heights of Avengers: Endgame on the box office charts ($2.23 billion and counting!), Far From Home will surely be on track to land in and around the $1 billion mark this summer.
