Avengers Endgame

James Cameron Congratulates Avengers: Endgame For Sinking Titanic

The director of mega-hits like Avatar and Titanic took to Twitter to congratulate Marvel and Disney on the success of Avengers: Endgame.

If you enjoy watching the ever-shifting landscape of box office totals, then you’ll know that Avengers: Endgame has been shattering records ever since it hit theaters. A few days ago, the MCU’s highest-grossing film crossed the $2 billion mark, becoming the fifth movie to do so. At the time of writing, Endgame has already eclipsed the likes of Titanic, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Avengers: Infinity War. The last target in its sights? Avatar, which released back in 2009, and has grossed $2.788 billion worldwide.

Of course, there’s no doubt that Endgame will eventually dethrone director James Cameron’s sci-fi spectacle, which wowed audiences with its incredibly detailed computer-generated visuals and impressive used of 3D. The newest Avengers film is roughly $500 million from taking the top spot, and it’s bound to hit the mark after a few more weeks at the box office. Until such a day though, Cameron has had to contend with the fact that Endgame recently surpassed the success of Titanic, and it looks like he’s taking it in stride.

Earlier today, the Canadian-born director took to Twitter to post a heartfelt message to both Kevin Feige and everyone else at Marvel Studios. The tweet, which is embedded above, shows a giant Avengers logo capsizing the RMS Titanic. At the bottom, Cameron penned a brief statement, congratulating Marvel and Disney for their massive success.

Of course, one of James’ future films might be able to take back the top spot at the box office. Avatar 2 is set to release in two-and-a-half years, and with a star-studded cast – including Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver and Vin Diesel – there’s always a chance that this highly-anticipated sequel could dethrone Avengers: Endgame.
