Avengers: Endgame is certainly not short on easter eggs, as it contains numerous nods to past films in the MCU, references various comic book storylines and gives us a few hints at future heroes to come. One that a lot of folks missed, though, was a nod to a relatively obscure Marvel character.
It occurs when Steve Rogers heads back to Camp Lehigh in 1970. While there, he sees Peggy Carter through an office window. She’s oblivious to him though, as she’s in the midst of a conversation with a S.H.I.E.L.D. operative. Though it’s tough to make out what exactly she’s saying, fans have since figured out that she mentions an incident involving a supernatural phenomena that was “not lightning” and that an agent named “Braddock” hasn’t checked in.
Clearly, this has to be a nod to Brian Braddock AKA Captain Britain. Or is it? Directors Anthony and Joe Russo were recently asked about the reference while appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast and refused to confirm anything, with Joe simply saying:
“I think we uh, maybe… or maybe it’s just a guy named Braddock [laughs].”
As much as the Russos may want to keep the secret, this is obviously a hint towards Captain Britain. But is it just a fun easter egg, or could Brian Braddock actually be coming to the MCU? Well, we’ve heard rumors in the past that Marvel may have their eye on him and he’s certainly someone who fans would want to see on the big screen, but to date, nothing’s been confirmed.
For now, though, it looks like the seeds have at least been planted for his introduction if Marvel chooses to bring him into the MCU, and with any luck, this little tease in Avengers: Endgame was a sign of bigger things to come for the character.
