QuickSilver in Age of Ultron

Avengers: Endgame Directors Address Those Quicksilver Rumors

Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Joe and Anthony Russo addressed those rumors that Quicksilver was set to appear in Avengers: Endgame.

From the initial five-year time jump to the Time Heist which revisited previous MCU films to the astonishing final battle that brought together pretty much every hero in the franchise, Avengers: Endgame was packed full of cameos, walk-ons and quick appearances for a bevy of familiar faces from a whole bunch of different MCU movies. Truthfully, it made the ballooning cast of Avengers: Infinity War look small in comparison.

Whether it was fan favorite characters who we’ve been anxious to see again in the present – like Korg and Miek – or just those who were making one last MCU appearance with the aid of time travel – like Loki, who manages to escape his fate in an alternate timeline – there were a ton of people to look out for in the film and watching each and every cameo director Anthony and Joe Russo threw in was a real delight.

There was one major character though who folks thought they were surely going to see before heading into theaters but didn’t. We’re talking, of course, about Quicksilver, as played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson back in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

If you’ll recall, while Endgame was still deep in production, numerous reports popped up of people saying they’d spotted Johnson on set, and for long time, it seemed all but certain that he’d have some kind of role in the film. But when asked in a recent interview if there were ever any plans to bring Quicksilver back, the Russos shot down the rumors, saying that he was never going to appear in Endgame at any point.

While they could just be telling another one of their classic lies here, we’re inclined to believe them. After all, there was so much going on in the movie as it was that adding yet another big cameo may’ve been overkill. Then again, we know that Ultron director Joss Whedon originally toyed with the idea of resurrecting Quicksilver right away, and that Taylor-Johnson had an option in his contract to return in future films.

So, clearly the idea of doing more with the character has been discussed over the years, and while he may not have shown up in Avengers: Endgame, we wouldn’t be surprised if he does indeed come back in some capacity in a Phase 4 or 5 release.
