Dan Aykroyd Says Ghostbusters 3 Is Heartfelt And Quite Scary

It sounds almost too good to be true, but assuming that things keep according to schedule, fans from all over will be watching Ghostbusters 3 in a little more than a year. It's hard to believe things have progressed this quickly, and it was only a few months ago that Sony Pictures released a brief teaser to hype up the web. But given that it didn't show us a whole lot, there's still one thing on everyone's mind: What will this new film be about?

It sounds almost too good to be true, but assuming that things keep according to schedule, fans from all over will be watching Ghostbusters 3 in a little more than a year. It’s hard to believe things have progressed this quickly, and it was only a few months ago that Sony Pictures released a brief teaser to hype up the web. But given that it didn’t show us a whole lot, there’s still one thing on everyone’s mind: What will this new film be about?

As of now, plot points are scarce, but we do know a few key details. For one, the movie focuses on a whole new team of teenage poltergeist poachers, rather than the adults we’ve grown accustomed to in the past few films. Casting information hasn’t fully been revealed, though we do know Finn Wolfhard (of Stranger Things and It fame) and Mckenna Grace (I Tonya, Captain Marvel) will be starring as brother and sister. Furthermore, director Jason Reitman (son of Ivan, who spearheaded the original two movies), has gone on the record to say that the Ghostbusters 3 is a love letter to the originals and won’t treat the all-female reboot as canon, a move which drew ire from star Leslie Jones.

Recently, franchise veteran Dan Aykroyd shed some light on the upcoming film. As reported by Bloody Disgusting, the man behind Raymond “Ray” Stantz weighed in on Jason’s script, which he called “beautiful,” “heartfelt,” and, interestingly, “quite scary.”

“Ivan Reitman’s son Jason has written a beautiful script, I can’t say too much about it but it’s going to get made and hopefully there’ll be some familiar faces,” Aykroyd explained, adding, “It’s so different from even the first and second (film). This just takes it to a new generation and a new direction that is so warm, heartfelt and indeed, quite scary when you confront some of the issues that are being discussed.”

He was also quick to note the budget would be reigned in under $100 million this time around, likely a result of the 2016 reboot’s poor box office performance. Even so, we’re incredibly excited to see what Jason Reitman pulls off, and with any luck, we won’t have to wait too long to watch Ghostbusters 3 on the big screen.
